Alright, last blog post!
I have been contemplating on whether I should share more about my nature walk with BFF or the almost trip to see the Raffles Banded Langur with BFF. I decided to choose to write about the almost trip to see the Raffles Banded Langur. (Well…nobody say cannot) =p
I was sooo close to getting to see a Raffles Banded Langur! But, the new covid rules screwed it all up. T_T
The rescheduled slot, was on a weekday. But, I need to work on that day. T_T *plays sad music*
I even tried to search for it on my own. But, I failed!! *plays sad music*
Alright, let me share what I know here with my very limited knowledge.

Now, let me introduce to you 2 extremely extremely extremely rare monkeys.

Left: A Raffles’ banded langur – which is a species found only in Singapore and southern Peninsular Malaysia – with a white-furred baby. Right: A dusky langur with its orange-furred baby. The white eye rings and white markings around the mouths of dusky langurs – which are not native to Singapore – are more prominent than on the Raffles’ banded langurs
Do you know that these dusky-coloured langurs are so elusive, they were once on the brink of extinction?
Currently, there are only an estimated 40 to 60 individuals left in the wild!
To add on, the black-and-white Raffles’ banded langur is native to Singapore, and on the brink of extinction.
Researchers estimate there are only 67 individuals left in the wild in Singapore.
This species of langurs are endemic to Singapore and Malaysia, specifically Johor and Pahang. That means they are only found in these places and not anywhere else in the world.
That’s how rare they are!
Why are they so rare?
Well….rapid urban development and subsequent habitat loss is the main cause of their dwindling population. =(
Based on Instagram profile: rafflesbandedlangur, these monkeys population have increased due to careful conservation efforts to improve habitat quality and connectivity.
And, I hope that EcoLink@BKE bridge is an advantage to them too. *prays*
P/S: all pictures and information are from various sources such as mothership, nparks and straits times.
Do check out Instagram profile: rafflesbandedlangur to find out more!!
And, I hope, that BFF could create another raffles banded langur walk again.
Can? Can? *pouts*
