Reflections

Writing a blog is stressful.

Especially when I see all those wonderful written blogs by the students from NUS. Their great command of English and the words they write to describe their experiences make me feel so small.

But, I still need to at least write a post. After all, it is one of the criteria of joining BFF Biodiversity Challenge 2021.

Since I’ve joined quite a number of their nature walks, it is right for me to write a post to give back for their efforts in creating this program.

But….Which one should I write?

My very first night walk at Bukit Batok Nature Park where I get to see the Colugos, rubber tree sap and cinnamon trees?

My very first time seeing otters in real life near Ang Mo Kio-Bishan park?

My very first time participating inthe horse shoe crab research program?

My very first time in Pasir Ris Park where I get to see snakes, crabs and many interesting flora and fauna?

Hiyo….I cant choose!!

Now, my readers ( if there is any…), you will realized that alot of my experiences are firsts.

Why is that so?

Auntie over here, thought Singapore only have humans and monkeys. Rest of the animals in Singapore can only be found inthe zoo or bird park.

After all, Singapore is a city and don’t have natural resources right?

Well, its all thanks to covid that I get to know about BFF program and realized that there is so much nature in Singapore!

Its an eye opener!

Too bad, auntie over here need to act more mature than the rest of the people inthe walk with me. Else, I will go woah, woah, woah every time I see any interesting stuffs during the nature walk.

It’s also through this program that I get to learn about the challenge of having wildlife and civilization to exist together.

Now, whenever auntie sees an article of people going to beaches to collect wildlife, people go hiking until it pose a threat to the rare plants or that corpse flower in Sembawang which have been innocently cut away, auntie will feel angry for nature.

But, there’s this debate that have been in my mind.

Going to beaches to collect wildlife is wrong. But, so many boats inthe ocean use more professional method to collect wildlife for profit and over fish. Isn’t that worse?

People go forest to hike until it pose a threat to the rare plants. But, government going to remove that forest to build housing. Isn’t that damage even greater?

Based on root cause analysis method, actually should control the highest damage contributor more so that nature could have a higher percentage of survival?

This is so ironic.

I want to hear from you guys what can be done so that man and nature could co-exist together.

Do let me know your thoughts. =)
